Divorce advice - the US divorce rate in 2003

divorce advice

Before divorce advice can be given it is first necessary to develop an appreciation for the US divorce rate in 2003. The US divorce rate in 2003 fell by 5.6% compared with the previous year. The divorce rate fell from 975,164 in 2002 to 920,060 in 2003, a drop of 55,104 couples. Although the statistical figures show a significant drop in the divorce rate across the whole of the US, in effect, this substantial reduction was the result of an improvement in the marital welfare of just nine States. The states that contributed to this drop were: Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Washington. These states directly contributed to the divorce rate across the whole of the United States, but the significance of these statistics was that they also showed an increase in their marital rate. This is a significant result as a drop in the divorce rate combined with an increase in the rate of marriage is a good indication that there is an improvement in the marital welfare of a society. The lowest divorce rates were in the State of Nevada. Nevada's divorce rate dropped by 30.04% even though its marriage rate increased by 12.399%. The statistics also shows that the highest number of people getting divorced were in the State of Delaware, where the number increased by a staggering 64.72% even though the marriage rate had fallen by 6.4%.
